The two conditions for placing a patient under
confinement
- Patient mental health presents serious and immediate danger to self or others, if leaves the hospital
- Patient refuses to stay in the hospital.
Time frame for GEE
- The first psychiatric assessment is required to be done within the 24hrs preceding the Provisional confinement.
- The second psychiatric assessment is required to be done with in the 48hrs proceeding the Provisional confinement.
Patient has the rights to be made aware of
The team’s concern for safety and the confinement application.
His/her rights to be present and contest at the court hearing when MUHC presents the application for provisional confinement.
Psychiatric reevaluation
after 21 days, following 24 h
every 3 months
