Potassium
Given to patients with low potassium (hypokalemia). Check potassium lab before administration
Dyazide (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene)
Treats hypertension. Check BP before administration. Check I/O’s
Coumadin (warfarin)
Blood thinner used to prevent/treat blood clots. Check labs associated with clotting.
Prevacid (lansoprazole)
Treats gastro-esophageal reflux (acid indigestion)
Percocet (hydrocodone/tylenol)
Analgesic (pain med) for moderate to severe pain. Check pain score before and 30mins after administration
Lopressor (metoprolol)
Treats hypertension. Check BP before administration
Dilantin (phenytoin)
Anticonvulsant - given to treat seizure disorders and reduce/stop seizure activity
Iron (FE)
Given to patients with low FE. Check FE lab before administration
Digoxin (lanoxin)
Treats heart rate and rhythm problems (slows down heart rate). Check heart rate at apical. DO NOT GIVE if HR below 60 bpm.
Lasix (furosemide)
Diuretic given to get rid of extra fluid in the body. Check I/O’s
Multi-vitamin
Given as a supplement
Colace (docusate sodium)
Stool softener for constipated patient. Ask patient about bowel movements before administration
Erythromycin
Antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections
Aspirin
Analgesic also can be used as a blood thinner
