Medically Compromised Flashcards

Q
When would you prescribe Abx cover for pts at risk of IE
A
- would only rly prescribe ABx if after writing to cardiologist, they advise ABx cover for tx then you would
- Esp bc guidance isn’t clear bc it’s not ROUTINELY recommended bc we wouldn’t be managing cardiac element so difficult for us to make that decision
2
Q
Is there still a risk of IE in a special considerations pt for an RCT with closed apex ?
A
- as long as you’re not going to introduce bacteria it may be fine
- But if you’re gonna put a clamp on etc etc could create risk there
- So may need ABx cover
3
Q
Pt at risk of IE with EDP fracture - Abx cover needed?
A
- there is a difference between caries process and trauma for cvek (usually cvek hasn’t got same bacterial ingress)
- cvek pulpotomy - if done early and you don’t have infection going on you shouldn’t need to have ABx cover bc you shouldn’t be introducing bacteria if it’s quite early on
- Clamp or rubber dam may introduce bacteremia ? So may need ABx cover for that depending on regime required by cardiologist
