A

Monitored Anesthetic Care (MAC)

Also know as conscious sedation.

Mac sedation provides patient with anxiety relief, amnesia, pain relief, comfort, and safety during the procedure

What is important to remember about general anesthesia in relation to InterStim therapy

A
  • it will prevent the patient from exhibiting motor responses during the procedure
  • doctors must rely on the patient’s motor response, sine there won’t have any sensory or verbal responses
  • it is recommend that the person educating on the use evaluation system or programmer meet with the patient and a family member prior to the procedure so they don’t need to wait through the longer recovery period post procedure
