Arteriosclerosis
a disease of the arterial vessels marked by thickening, hardening and loss of elasticity in the arterial walls
Arteriostenosis
narrowing of the lumen of an artery
Endarterectomy
surgical removal of the lining of an artery
Atheroma
fatty degeneration or thickening of the walls of the larger arteries occurring in atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis
the most common form of arteriosclerosis, marked by cholesterol-lipid-calcium deposits in the walls of arteries that may restrict blood flow
Atherectomy
the removal of atherosclerotic plaque from arteries with rotating drills or lasers
Interatrial Septum
the myocardial wall between the atria of the heart
Cardiologist
a physician specializing in treatment of heart disease
Cardiology
the study of the physiology and pathology of the heart
Cardiomegaly
enlargement of the heart
Electrocardiogram
(ECG) a record of the electrical activity of the heart, consisting of the waves called P, Q, R, S, T, and sometimes U
Myocardial
pert. to the myocardium
Cardiomyopathy
(CMP) any disease that affects the heart muscle, diminishing cardiac performance
Pancarditis
inflammation of the structures of the heart
Pericarditis
inflammation of the pericardium, marked by chest pain, fever and an audible friction
Pericardium
the membranous fibroserous sac enclosing the heart and the bases of the great vessels
Coronary Arteries
arise from the sides of the aorta immediately above the semilunar valves and supply the tissues of the heart itself
Echocardiogram
the graphic record produced by echocardiography
