Medical Technology - Bionics: The Heart Flashcards
Where are the superior vena cava and interior vena cava located?
At the right side of the heart, towards the top and bottom respectively.
What are the (TAMP) valves of the heart?
Tricuspid, aorta, mitral, pulmonary valves.
Distinguish between the roles of the left and right ventricles.
The right ventricle re-oxygenates blood, and the left ventricle distributes blood to the cells.
What does the atria do when the heart is relaxed?
When relaxed, the atria pumps 80% of the blood it receives from the veins to the ventricles.
When the heart contacts, what does the atria do?
When contracted, the atria pumps the remaining 20% of blood it receives from the veins to the ventricles.
What is the role of the atria?
The atria receives blood from the veins and passes it on to the ventricles.
What is the role of arteries?
Arteries carry blood away from the heart.
What is the role of the veins?
Veins carry blood back towards the heart.
What is the role of the sinus node? (3)
“Stimulates pump -> sends electrical signals through other nerve connection -> ventricles.”
What are the processes of the pacemaker? (3,3)
Pacemaker -> electrical signal -> atria.
Pacemaker -> electrical signal -> ventricles.
