Medical Imaging Tech (note #2) Flashcards

1
Q

X-ray give description/purpose.

A

Description:Involves sending electromagnetic radiation through the body to form images.
Purpose: To view hard tissue AKA bone, important in diagnosing bone injury/malformations.

Q

CAT scan (purpose/description).

A

Description: (computerized axial tomography) An X-ray source/sensor rotates around the body. A computer turns data into 3D images remincent of body slices.
Purposes: To view hard tissue (bone), important in diagnosing bone injury/malformations.

Q

Ultrasound (purpose/description).

A

Description) Involves sending sound waves at a body part and measuring reflected sound waves to make an image.
Purpose) Used to view/diagnose disease in soft/hard tissue (organs/bone).

Q

MRI scan (description/purpose)

A

Involves sending radio waves through a magnetic field around the body that creates multiple computer images. similar to a CAT scan but more descriptive. Purpose) Used to view/diagnose disease in soft/hard tissue.

Q

PET scan (description/purpose)

A

Involves scanning small amounts of radioactive material that has been ingested by the body. Helps reveal details of tissues/organs. Can be combined with MRI or CAT scan.
Purpose) To view soft tissue, and to diagnose/track cancers.

Q

Endoscopy (definition/purpose)

A

Definition) Conducted with a scope attached to a flexible tube. The scope is made up of tiny cameras and light.
Purpose) To view internal body parts without making incisions. to diagnose, to take tissue samples, and to perform surgeries.

Q

Microscopy (definition/purpose)

A

Conducted using microscopes ex light and electron.
Purpose) This allows for greater enlargement/resolution of cells/tissues. This is helpful for the diagnosis of various diseases.
