Medical Cases Flashcards
Aneurysm
Localized sac or dilation formed at a weak point, often in the wall of the aorta
Puts pressure on other vessels nearby and impedes their function/blood flow to other organs
Turbulent blood flow causes blood to stagnate and create clots
Genetic and usually in men 50-70 years of age
Causes/risk factors of aneurysms
Warfan syndrome - connective tissue disorder
Congenital heart disease
Iatrogenic injuries - caused by medical procedure
Atherosclerosis - hardening of lumen in arter
Pregnancy
Dissecting aneurysm
Tear in one layer causing blood between the layers
Severe pain (tearing sensation), at risk for throwing clots A complete rupture is when it tears through all 3 layers
Tx = 2 large bore IV’s monitor urine output, ECG
What will show up on an ECG of a hypothermic patient?
Osborn wave - J wave
