Medial Thigh Flashcards
What is the main function of the medial thigh?
Adduction of the hip
What 5 muscles are in the medial thigh compartment?
- Gracillis
- Adductor longus
- Adductor brevis
- Adductor megnus
- Obturator externis
What is the adductor hiatus?
A gap in the distal end of the adductor magnus that is an important route for vessels passing to the popliteal fossa
What nerve supplies the medial compartment of the thigh?
Obturator nerve
How does the obturator nerve rach the medial compartment of the thigh?
Passes through the obturator canal
Where is the anterior branch of the obturator nerve found in the medial thigh?
On the anterior surface of adductor brevis
Where is the posterior branch of the obturator nerve found in the medial thigh?
Deep to adductor brevis
What muscles does the anterior branch of the obturator nerve supply?
- Adductor brevis
- Adductor longus
- Gracillis
What muscles does the posterior branch of the obturator nerve supply?
- Obturator externus
- Adductor magnus
What is the Adductor Canal and what does it contain?
- It serves as a passageway for structures moving between the anterior thigh and posterior leg
- It contains femoral vessels, femoral nerve and saphenous nerve
What muscles does the saphenous nerve pass between in the thigh?
Sartorius and gracillis muscle
What is the femoral artery an extension of?
External iliac artery
The profunda femoris is a branch of what artery?
Femoral artery
When does the external iliac artery become the femoral artery?
When it passes the inguinal ligament
What structure in the thigh provides an alternative route for blood flow into the thigh if there is a blockage of the femoral artery?
Cruciate anastomosis
