Atmosphere
The feelings or emotions created by a story
Pace
The speed at which a story is being told
Focus
What the reader/audience attention is drawn to at different points of the story
Tension
Points in a story that create unease for the reader/audience, making them want to find out more
Chronological
Events in the order that they occur
Archetype
A very typical example of a type of person
Stock character
A type of character in a story who is easily recognisable as they appear in many stories.
E.g., Stroppy teenager
Code
Something that has to be unscrambled or decoded for the meaning to become clear.
Symbolic codes
A system where things like objects, weather, colours can represent hidden meanings.
