2 main types of media
- Mainstream media (mass media) - controlled by big media companies or the GOV (CNN, The NYTs)
- Alternative media - individuals sharing opinions and thoughts through an informal channel (YB, FB)
Mainstream Media
the old days when not have access to the Inter => the only way to get current Inf.
have a choice but be influenced by peo had the Inf. => who possess the inf. holds lots of power over the pub.
Alternative Media
the presence of social media => giving every1 an opportunity to spread the words if needed. (some think AM is less biased and manipulative than the M counterpart)
journalism
the work of collecting, writing, and publishing or broadcasting news stories and articles
bump into (different channels with different types of content)

- broadcast = electrically transmit (inf. is transmitted/ broadcasted/ disseminate)
- investigative journalism
- Blogging (~the alternative media <= creat his or her own blog, start transmitting news at zero cost)
- immersion journalism (focus on experience rather than peo or author himself)
- Analytical journalism (transcends facts to offer opinions and commentaries)
