Administering metoprolol
A
- check mar to see if scheduled dose is during time frame
- take apical pulse, if below 50 hold
- for angina and HTN
- fatigue, weakness, pulmonary edema
- sign mar

Administering Simvastatin
A
- check mar, plan to give if scheduled time falls during scenario
- lipid-Lowering agent, given in evening
- lowers ldl and raises hdl

Administering insulin
A
Take blood glucose- don’t forget to clean finger with chlorohexidine and warn of poke
- read sliding scale to determine if correction or scheduled dose is needed
- write blood glucose on diabetic record, if dose to be given, record in appropriate column and write time and blood glucose on mar in appropriate area
- get bottle, wipe top, inject air, draw up dose
- with needle in bottle, have double check
- label needle
- teach pt insulin is for DM and to watch for signs of hypoglycaemia
- clean site
- administer
- finish documenting

Administering potassium
A
- check IV drug manual
- make sure concentration is 10mEq/mL
- take apical pulse and BP
- teach potassium is to replace that depleted by insulin therapy
- let staff know if you feel chest pain or if your heart feels irregular
- close clamp, prime tubing
- clean hub
- have double check at pump
- monitor BP and HR

Administering nitro
A
-for angina and HTN
-take BP and apical pulse, hold if apical below 50 bpm
-assess pain
-give 1 per five min up to 3 times
Document on MAR and progress notes
-assess pain, HR and BP before each admin
-may cause dizziness, hypotension, headache
