Mechanism of Immune Response Flashcards
Humoral immune response
STEP 1: Name of the mechanism
Humoral immunity/ Antibody immune response/ humoral immune response
STEP 2: What the bacteria do?
Bacteria that invade the body is engulfed and digested by macrophage/ antigen presenting cell (APC)
STEP 3: What is the function of APC?
- APC displays antigen-class II MHC complex on its surface
- (That activates) helper T cells to bind with APC/ antigen-class II MHC complex.
- APC secretes interleukin-1/cytokines to activate helper T cells.
STEP 4: What activated helper T cells do?
Activated helper T cells secrete interleukin-2
STEP 5: What Interleukin-2 do?
Interleukin-2 activates B cells
STEP 6: What B cells do?
Activated B cells then proliferate and differentiate into plasma cells and memory B cells.
STEP 7: What is function of Plasma cells?
Plasma cells secrete antibody to destroy the bacteria.
STEP 8: What is function of memory B cells?
Memory B cells are used for rapid response towards secondary infection.
