Mechanics - Forces and Momentum (Module 9) Flashcards
What Is The Principle Of Conservation Of Momentum?
This states that for a system of interacting objects, the total momentum remains constant, provided no external resultant force acts on the system
Define An Elastic Collision
A collision where there is no loss of kinetic energy
Define An Inelastic Collision
A collision where the colliding objects have less kinetic energy after the collision than before the collision.
How Do You Work Out Momentum?
Mass times Velocity = Momentum
What Is The Unit For Momentum?
Kg m s^-1
What Is The Equation For Impulse?
It is the force x the time for which the force acts. Therefore Impulse = F x (Change in time)
What Part Of A Force Time Graph, Does The Impulse Represent?
The area underneath the line.
