Meat structure Flashcards
Epimysium
A layer of connective tissue that surrounds the muscle. Becomes a tendon.
Perimysium
A layer of connective tissue that surrounds the fascicle. Connects to tendons, transmits power
Fascicle
Lihassyykimppu. A bundle of muscle fibres, sarcolemmas.
Endomysium
Connective tissue that covers sarcolemma
Sarcolemma
Lihassyy. A muscle fibre.
Myofibril
Inside the sarcolemma
Sarcomere
Smallest functional part of the muscle. Repating units between Z-lines
Sarcoplasm
Cellfluid
Proteoglycan
Large ‘bottle-brush’ molecyle. Prevents bones from touching each other. Binds 25x of its weight in water.
Collagen
Triple helix protein. 25% of body’s protein. Main fibrous component of skin, bone, tendon, cartilage and teeth.
