Measuring Power Flashcards
What is the Banzhaf power index?
The BPI measures the actual power players have in any winning coalition with critical players
How do you find the total amount of Banzhaf coalitions?
The formula 2^n - 1
What is a critical player?
A critical player is a player in a winning coalition that is needed to be part of the coalition in order for it to be a winning coalition
What is a winning coalition?
A coalition containing the number of weighted votes required to pass a motion
How do you Calculate the Banzhaf power index of each player?
1) List all winning coalitions.
2) In each winning coalition, identify all critical players.
3) For each player, count the total amount of times critical for that specific player and divide it by the total amount of critical players in the whole index
What is a dictator?
A player that is equal to or greater than the quota. Can single-handedly pass a motion.
What is a dummy?
A player that is not critical in any winning coalition, which means the player has no actual power in the coalition
What is the Shapley-Shubik power index?
A list of all sequential coalitions, using the formula N!
How do you find the S.S.I.P?
1) list all the sequential coalitions
2) identify the pivotal player in each sequential coalition
3) for each player, count the total amount of times the specific player was pivotal and divide it by the total amount of sequential coalitions
What is a pivotal player?
A player that helps the coalition reach the quota in the sequential coalition.
