Measuring Physical Activity Flashcards
What is the exercise vital sign?
A validated tool that can be used to quantify current weekly levels of physical activity by multiplying active minutes per day by the number of active days per week.
What is the Borg scale ?
A subjective rating of perceived exertion. 6= no exertion, 20= maximal exertion. RPE is approximately 10x HR
what is a MET?
a metabolic equivalent of task. It is a gauge of physical activity intensity. 1MET= rate of energy expenditure at rest, approx 3.5ml of O2/kg/minute
what are repetitions in reserve?
a measure used in resistance training. Used to assess perceived exertion or exercise intensity. It measures how many repetitions remain in a set before failure.
What is the anaerobic threshold?
the point at which lactate rises disproportionately above resting volumes (>4), it is usually communicated as a percentage of VO2 max at which it occurs. In an untrained person it is usually around 55%. A higher lactate threshold is a marker of better endurance.
