Measuring Instruments and Warning Indication System Flashcards
main job is to monitor the performance of the electrical system of the aircraft
ammeter and voltmeter
these instruments are provided in dc and ac power genersting systems and in most instances are of the permanent magnet moving-coil type
ammeter and voltmeter
used in conjunction with all dc system ammeters
shunts
main purpose is to permit an ammeter to measure a large number of possible values of current
shunts
a resistor having a very low value of resistance and connected external to the ammeter and in parallel with its moving coil
shunts
may be employed in secondary AC generating systems utilizing inverters
frequency meters
form part of the metering system required for main AC power generating systems
frequency meters
usual to provide an indication of the total power generated and/or the total reactive power
power meters
used to alert the flight crew to conditions affecting the operation of aircraft systems
warning and indicating lights
categories of warning and indicating lights
warning lights, caution lights, indicating or advisory lights
designed to alert the flight crew of unsafe conditions and are accordingly colored red
warning lights
amber in color to indicate abnormal but not necessarily dangerous conditions requiring caution
caution lights
are either green or blue; provided to indicate that a system is operable or has assumed a safe condition
indicating or advisory lights
comprises a centralized group of warning and indicator lights connected to signal circuits actuated by the appropriate systems of the aircraft
central warning systems
all the lights are contained on an annunciator panel installed within a pilot’s visual range
