Measuring Data Throughput Flashcards
1
Q
What is Data throughput? And what’s the unit for throughput?
A
- Is how quickly that data can be transferred; measured in bits per second (bps).
- Represents the amount of data that can be transmitted at a given point in time.
2
Q
What are 3 ways that throughput can be achieved? And how does it work?
A
- Copper wires that transmit bits in the form of electrical pulses.
- Wireless networks transmit bits in the form of radio signal pusles.
- Optical Fiber cables transmit bits in the form of light pulses.
3
Q
List all the unit of throughput and the bps for each unit.
A
- Kilobits per second is 1,000 bps.
- Megabits per second is 1,000,000 bits per second.
- Gigabits per second is 1,000,000,000 bits per second.
- Terabits per second is 1,000,000,000,000 bits per second.
4
Q
What is unit of througput used in home, work place and data center?
A
- Home place usually uses megabits per second.
- Work place usually uses gigabits per second.
- Data center usually uses terabits per second.
