Measures of central tendency + dispersion Flashcards
1
Q
Measures of central tendency
A
Mean, Median, Mode
2
Q
Mean - arthimetic average
A
Total of all values in a set of data divided by the number of values
3
Q
Strengths: Mean
A
- the most sensitive of the measures as it incldes all the values in the data set = more representative of the data as a whole
4
Q
Limitations: Mean
A
- Easily distorted by extreme values (takes into account all the values) = could lead to not being representative
5
Q
Median
A
The middle value in a set of data when scores are arranged from lowest to highest value
6
Q
Strengths: median
A
- Not affected by extreme scores
- Good for ordinal data
- Esay to calculate
7
Q
Limitations: median
