What is Health Status?
An individuals or populations overall health, taking into account various aspects such as life expectancy, amount of disability and levels of disease risk factors.
What is Burden of Disease?
Measured using a DALY, where one DALY is the equivalent of one healthy year of life LOST as a result of premature death or living with disease/disability.
-YLL + YLD = DALYs.
What is Disability Adjusted Life Years?
One DALY is equivalent of one healthy year of life lost as result of premature death or living with disease/disability.
What is Life expectancy?
An indication of how long a person can expect to live it is the number of years of life remaining to a person at a particular age if death rates do not change.
What is Health indicators?
Ways of measuring health status and they are known as health indicators.
What is Mortality?
Refers to death.
What is Morbidity?
Ill-Health in a individual and the level of ill-health in a population.
What is Incidence?
Number or rate of NEW cases of a disease during a specified period of time (usually a 12 month period).
What is Prevalence?
Total number of cases of a condition at a given time.
What is self-assessed health status?
Individuals own perception of their health & wellbeing.
Years lost due to disability? (YLD)
A measure of how many healthy years of life are lost due to illness, injury or disability.
What is Years of life lost? (YLL)
A measure of how many healthy years of life are lost due to premature death.
