Measurement of Central Tendency Flashcards
How to find the mode?
To find the mode, find the score or category that occurs most often in a distribution.
The mode can be easily found by inspection, rather than by computation. For instance, in
the set of scores 1, 2, 3, 1, 1, 6, 5, 4, 1, 4, 4, 3, the mode (Mo) is 1, because it is the number
that occurs more than any other score in the set (it occurs four times).
The most commonly used measure of central tendency and defined as the sum of a set of scores divided by the total number of scores in the set.
Mean (x̄)
The most frequent, most typical, or most common value in a distribution
Mode (Mo)
Best measure of central tendency if your data is negatively skewed
Median
The middlemost point in a distribution
Median (Mdn)
What is the median formula
Position of median = N+1/2
Is a quantitative method of splitting up a set of ranked data into 10 equally large subsections
Decile
What are the different measurement of central tendency
- Mode
- Median
- Mean
A division of observations into four defined intervals based on the values of the data and how they compare to the data set
Quartile
A statistical tool that seeks to describe the entire data set using a single value, which serves as a representation of the middle or center of the data distribution
Measurement of Central Tendency
What is the formula for quartile
n+1/4
What is the formula for mean?
x̄ = ΣX/N
x̄ = mean
g = sum
X = raw score in a set of
scores
N = Number of scores
What is formula for decile
n+1/10
What is the formula in getting the median of grouped data
H-L/2
