Measurement Devices Flashcards
Fowler’s Method
Measurement of anatomical dead space. Single breath N2 washout. Breathe in 100% O2 (single breath) then plot N2 concentration.
Absorption wavelengths of Pulse Oximeter
660nm (red) and 940nm (infrared) - then the ratio of absorption is converted via calibrated normograms
Absorption characteristics of MetHb
Absorbs more IR than OxyHb or DeOxyHb therefore results in an R value approaching 1, causing a calculated SpO2 trending towards 85%
Isobestic Point of Pulse Oximetry
805nm
Absorption characteristics of COHb
Predominantly absorbs light at 660nm and does not absorb at 940nm therefore causes a falsely raised reading
CPEX: Anaerobic Threshold
Less than 11 ml/kg/min = poor outcomes
