Areas of shallow water filled with coarse sediment (slow). Deflect the line of fastest flow(Thalweg)
Meander formation
The presence of pools and riffles causes the river flow and line of fastest flow (thalweg) to swing from side to side. This increases erosion on one side causing undercutting and deposition in the other side due to low velocity.
Step 2
Continued erosion along the outer bank as a result of abrasion and H.A created a River Cliff and deposition forms a point bar on the inner bank.
Step 3
The riffles and pools also increase the turbulence of the river and produce helicoidal flow (side to side) this causes erosion along the channel and deposition on the inside bend after a pool
