Large flat areas around the lowland rivers characterised by large amounts of alluvium.

Lateral deposition
The alluvium is a mixture of sand and gravel eroded from the outside of the meander and built up from deposition on the inside bends as the meander migrates downstream.

Horizontal deposition
Flood plains are also built up from horizontal layers of sediment deposited by the river during the flooding process.
