Me, Myself and I (4) Flashcards
What is the purpose of a t-test
to determine if the mean of one group is statistically different to the mean of another group. we can only conduct this when there are two groups
if the p-value calculated is very small what can be assumed about the null hypothesis
the null hypothesis is most likely incorrect, the data strongly supports the alternative hypothesis
what can we extract from a t-test and other statistical information
biological insight from which conclusions can be drawn
within our study what will be the two continuous variables
height and age
what does a regression model describe
the relationship between a response variable (dependent) and an explanatory variable (independent)
what does a line of best fit represent
the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable
within a graph with a line of best fit what are residuals
the differences between the observed values and those predicted by the regression line
within y=mx+c what does each letter stand for
y= predicted value of dependent variable
x= value of dependent value
m= gradient/ slope of the line
c= y-intercept (the value of y when x=0)
