Me 3.9 Social, Cognitive, and Neurological Factors in Learning Flashcards
preparedness
an organism’s readiness or predisposition to be conditioned in certain ways due to its evolutionary history.
predictability
describes the likelihood at which an event is going to occur
expectency
the internal state resulting from experience with predictable relationships between stimuli or between responses and stimuli
cognitive map
a mental representation of the layout of ones’ environment. For example, after exploring a maze, rats act as if they have learned a cognitive map of it.
latent learning
learning that occurs, but is not apparent until there is an incentive to demonstrate it.
Insight learning
a sudden realisation of a problem’s solution
observational learning
the acquisition of knowledge through watching others.
vicarious conditioning
the act of learning things through observing the reactions, attitudes, and emotions of others rather than direct exposure
mirror neurons
neurones that some scientists believe fire when we perform certain actions or observe another doing so. The brain’s mirroring of another’s action may enable imitation and empathy.
theory of mind
a person’s general understanding that the people around them each have their own unique beliefs, perceptions, and desires.
Bandura’s famous Bobo doll experiment
Children hit a doll if they observe adults hitting a doll.
