What is defined as vision loss that returns to normal within 24 hours, usually within 1 hour
Transient visual loss

Acute change in BP or disc drusen

Unilateral vs bilateral
Amaurosis fugax
transient ischemic attack; unilateral,
vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency; bilateral.
These are potentially what?
(1) Eyelid swelling
(2) Corneal irregularity
(3) Hyphema
(4) Ruptured globe
(5) Traumatic cataract
(6) Commotio retinae
(7) Retinal detachment
(8) Retinal or vitreous hemorrhage
(9) Lens dislocation
(10) Traumatic optic neuropathy
(11) Cranial neuropathies
(12) CNS injury
(13) Sympathetic ophthalmia (rare)
Posttraumatic visual loss etiologies
Visual Loss Management
(1) Thorough external inspection of the eye
(2) Test visual acuity and field of vision bilaterally
(3) Neurological examination if you have suspicion of TIA or stroke
(4) Ophalmoscopic examination
(5) Thorough ophthalmoscopic examination
(6) If concern of traumatic rupture globe, use an eye shield
(7) Immediate consult to medical officer and/or optometry or ophthalmology should be done
