Reichstag building was burned down. Communist Marius van der lubbe was put on trial and found guilty Hilter then declared that the Reichstag fire was part of a communist uprising

4000 communist arrested

Hitler persuaded hindenburg to pass a decree the “decree for the protection of the people and the state”. Which allowed him to imprison his political opponents and ban their news paper
