Maxillary Lateral Incisors Flashcards
how does the lateral incisor compare to the central incisor with respect to the mesio-distal/inciso-cervical lengths?
lateral incisor is longer inciso-cervically whereas the central incisor is about the same in both directions
Which tooth has a longer root (proportionally), the central or lateral incisor?
lateral incisor
how are the incisal angles in comparison to the central incisor?
both incisal angles are more rounded, with the distal still being the more rounded of the two
What are the mesial and distal HOCs of the maxillary lateral incisors?
Mesial: between the incisal and middle third - Distal: middle third
What are the facial and lingual HOCs of the maxillary lateral incisors?
Facial: cervical third - Lingual: closer to cervical line
Describe the mesial outline in comparison to the distal outline.
The mesial outline is flatter than the distal (distal is more rounded).
The central incisor has a lingual fossa, what is the lateral incisor’s lingual fossa ofter referred to as? Why?
a lingual pit ; it has proportionally larger marginal ridges and cingulum, resulting in a deeper lingual fossa.
Describe the distal cervical line in comparison to the mesial cervical line on the max. lateral incisors.
Distal cervical line is less curved toward the incisal than that of the mesial. (same as central incisor)
How does the root of the max. lateral incisors’ compare to that of the central’s?
lateral incisors have a more oval root (not triangular), and can have a visible distal curvature.
What is a peg lateral?
a maxillary lateral incisor that has a very conical shape.
