No, it is slightly controversial as the first Muslims did not celebrate it and Muhammad did not say that people should.
Most Muslim countries celebrate it - Saudi Arabia does not do so officially (no public holiday)

In the 3rd Islamic month.
Sunni celebrate on the 12th
Shia on the 17th

Carnival/party atmosphere (remember no alcohol)
Zakat is given (money to charity - one of the 5 pillars)
