Jesus Heals a Man with Leprosy

Matthew 8:1-3

A

“When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’
Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’ Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.”

Jesus shows His willingness to heal and help anyone who asks.
Just as He healed a man with leprosy, He can help you with anything if you ask with faith.
God has great blessings in store, but He wants you to trust Him before giving them to you.

The Cost of Discipleship (burying father)

Matthew 8:18-21

A

“When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, ‘Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.’
Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.’
Another disciple said to him, ‘Lord, first let me go and bury my father.’
But Jesus told him, ‘Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.’”

Following Jesus requires sacrifices and sometimes missing important events.
Discipleship isn’t about comfort; it involves making urgent and sometimes difficult decisions.
We are urged to focus more on Jesus than on worldly matters.
Jesus’ call for urgent discipleship emphasizes the need to put God above all else, even family.

Jesus Calms the Storm

Matthew 8:23-27

A

“Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’
He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!’”

Verse 26 highlights the importance of faith when facing hardships.
Jesus’ question to the disciples encourages them to trust Him in difficult times.
We should fear nothing but God, as our faith in Jesus can overcome all worldly challenges.
Trust in Jesus for strength and resolution, remembering that Jesus is Lord and can do everything.

Q

What do the demons say to Jesus

Matthew 8:28-29

A

“When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.
‘What do you want with us, Son of God?’ they shouted. ‘Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?’”

Even demons acknowledge Jesus’ divine power and authority.
They recognize Him as the “Son of God,” showing their fear and respect for Him.
Demons were once angels and are fully aware of Jesus’ power.
This passage reminds us that even the forces of evil cannot undermine Jesus’ authority.
Always pray for protection from evil forces, knowing that Jesus is constantly fighting against them on your behalf.

Q

A paralysed man is brought to Jesus

Matthew 9:1-5

A

“Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, ‘Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.’… ‘Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”

In this passage, Jesus demonstrates the power of faith. A paralyzed man is brought to Him, and Jesus forgives his sins before healing him. Jesus uses this opportunity to show His divine authority over both sin and sickness. He challenges the religious leaders’ thoughts and proves His authority to forgive sins by healing the man. The crowd is in awe and praises God.

Righteous and Sinners

Matthew 9:12

A

“On hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’”

Jesus speaks about His purpose to call sinners to repentance, not the righteous. He points out that He desires mercy over sacrifice, showing His intention to heal and forgive rather than to follow rigid religious rules.

Q

Bridegroom,Fasting, Wineskins

Matthew 9:14-16

A

“Then John’s disciples came and asked him, ‘How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?’ Jesus answered, ‘How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.’ ‘No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.’”

Jesus uses the metaphor of new wine in new wineskins to explain that His coming brings a new way of life. Fasting is not about rituals but should be a motivator to reconnect with God when needed.

Q

Bleeding Woman

Matthew 9:20-22

A

“Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, ‘If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.’ Jesus turned and saw her. ‘Take heart, daughter,’ he said, ‘your faith has healed you.’ And the woman was healed at that moment.’”

A woman suffering from chronic bleeding reaches out to Jesus, believing that even touching His cloak would heal her. Jesus acknowledges her faith and declares her healed. This passage emphasizes that faith is crucial for healing and miracles.

Q

2 Blind Men

Matthew 9:27-31

A

“As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David!’ When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, ‘According to your faith let it be done to you.’ And their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, ‘See that no one knows about this.’ But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.’”

Two blind men demonstrate faith by calling out to Jesus for mercy. When they confirm their belief, Jesus heals them, restoring their sight. This passage highlights that belief is central to receiving God’s healing and mercy.

Q

What the Pharisees think about Jesus’ healing

Matthew 9:32-34

A

“Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. The crowd was amazed and said, ‘Could this be the Son of David?’ But the Pharisees said, ‘It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.’”

Jesus heals a mute man possessed by a demon, and the crowd is amazed. However, the Pharisees accuse Jesus of being a servant of Satan. This passage reflects Jesus’ power over evil, despite the opposition.

Harvest and Workers

Matthew 9:37-38

A

“Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”

Jesus speaks to His disciples about the urgency of spreading the Gospel, likening the people who need salvation to a plentiful harvest. He urges them to pray for more workers to spread the message.
