Matter Jasimen licht Flashcards
What is matter
Anything you can hold or touch, and anything that occupies space
What is chemistry
All about what things are made of, what their properties are, and how they interact and change, almost like mixing color together and sees what happens
What is element
A substance that cannot separated or broken down into simpler substances by chemical means
What is atom
Elements made of only one kind, everything is made of atoms
What is compound
A substance made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds
What is a molecule
The smallest unit of a substance that keeps all of the physical and chemical properties of that substance
What is a chemical formula
A combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substance
What is pure substance
Matter that has a fixed composition and definite properties
What is a mixture
A combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined
What is heterogeneous mixture
Substances that aren’t mixed uniformly and are not evenly distributed
What is homogeneous mixture
Components are evenly distributed, and the mixture is the same throughout
What is miscible
Liquids that are mix-able
What is immiscible
Liquids that can not mix like oil and water they just layer and don’t mix
What is melting point
The temperature and pressure at which a solid becomes a liquid
What is boiling point
The temperature at which a liquid becomes a gas
What is density
Is light in comparison with something else of the same volume
What is reactivity
Chemical properties that react with a different substance or the ability of a substance to combine chemically with another substance
What is flammability
The ability to burn like wood had the ability to burn
What is physical properties
You cannot change the identity of the substance, and you can see the color
What is chemical property
You cannot not see the color or other properties of the chemical
What is physical change
Affects the form of chemical substance
What is chemical change
Any change in results in the formation of a new chemical substance
