chapter 6 Jasimen licht Flashcards
What is product
A substance that forms in a chemical reaction
What is Reactant
A substance or molecule that participates in a chemical reaction
What is chemical energy
The energy released when a chemical compound reacts to produce new compounds
What is exothermic reaction
A chemical reaction in which heat is released to the surrounding. An example would be isooctane-oxygen reaction
What is endothermic reaction
A chemical reaction that requires heat. And example would be like if you put hydrated barium hydroxide and ammonium nitride together in a flask, the reaction between them takes so much energy from the surroundings that water in the air will condense and then freeze on the surface of the flask.
What is synthesis reaction
A reaction which two or more substances combine to form a new compound
What is decomposition reactions
A reaction in which a single compound breaks down to form two or more simpler substances
What is electrolysis
The process in which an electric current is used to produce a chemical reaction, such as the decomposition of water
What is combustion reaction
The oxidation reaction of an organic compound, in which heat is released
What is single-displacement reaction
A reaction in which one element or radical takes the place of another element or radical in a compound
What is double-displacement reaction
A reaction in which a gas, a solid, or a molecule compound forms from the apparent exchange of atoms or ions between two compounds
What is oxidation-reduction reaction
Any chemical change in which one species is oxidized and another species is reduced, also called redox reaction
What is radicals
An organic group that has one or more electrons available for bonding
What is chemical equation
A representation of a chemical reaction that uses symbols to show the relationship between the reactants and the products
What is mole ratios
The relative number of moles of the substances required to produce a given amount of product in a chemical reaction
