Matter/Chemical Change - Section 3 Flashcards
What are some properties of ionic compounds?
They are solid at room temperature
They have high melting points
They have good conductivity
They have a distinct crystal shape
What is a molecular compound?
A molecule composed of at least two different non metallic compounds
What are the rules for naming molecular compounds?
Name the first element in the compound, but include a prefix that indicates the number of atoms present
Do not use a prefix if there is only one atom in the first element
Name the second element in the compound using the ending “-ide” and include a prefix that indicates the number of atoms present
What’s the prefix for an element if there is one atom present?
Mono
What is the prefix for an element if there are two atoms present?
