Matter Flashcards
Characteristics of solids
Defined shape, particals vibrate, they do not roll over eachother, colse as they can be, solids have a fixed volume,
Characteristics of liquids
Rely on the container it is in, liquid particals can roll iver eachother but have a limited amount of movement.
Characteristics of gas
Gas will fill the whole containe, the particles are always moving, and they have the most amount of energy.
What happens to matter when it is heated?
The particals inside the matter move faster because they have more energy. Because of this they need more room
What happends to matter when it is cooled?
The particals inside the matter move slower and need less space
What is matyer made of?
All matter is made of atoms different types of atoms create particals some include compounds and molecules
How are particals held together?
They are held together by using kinetic energy
Defusion
Tthe spread of one substance into another due to moving particals
Example of defusion
Perfume sprayed in a room, the sent or liquid paricals will defuse into the air
Why can liquids be poured
Because their particals can roll over one another.
