Math Exam Flashcards
What is product rule?
You keep the base the same and add the exponents together
How to solve for a variable, when given a one step equation
- Cancel out whatever number is beside your variable.(what you do to one side you do to the other.)
- Once you found your variable, you conduct LS RS check
How to graph a line when given the slope and Y intercept
- Use the equation Y= M X+ B
- Plot the white intercept (0,b)
- Use the slope to continue the graph.
Properties of parallel and perpendicular lines
Parallel-when two lines are parallel, they don’t touch. Have the same slope.
Perpendicular -when two lines are perpendicular, they form a right angle. negative reciprocal slopes
When given two points on a line, how to calculate the slope
Divide the vertical change (rise) by the horizontal change (run).
When given two lines, how to state possible transformations that were applied to get from one line to the next
Reflection-a transformation, representing a flip of a figure
-Y=-MX is a vertical reflection over the
Y= MX
Translation -to shift the lines position. Every point is moved the same amount.
-When adding ‘b’ to the original equation y=mx the line shifts (+b goes up and -b goes down)
Quotient rule
When dividing powers with the same base, keep the base and subtract the exponents
Power of the power
You keep the base and multiply the exponents
Distribution property
a(b+c) = a(b) + a(c)
Slope formula
Y2-Y1
———
X2-x1
