Math Chemistry Flashcards
1
Q
Word Equations
A
- Reactants -> Products.
- E.g. Calcium carbonate + sulfuric acid → calcium sulfate + carbon dioxide + water.
2
Q
Formula Equations
A
- E.g. CaCO3 + H2SO4 → CaSO4 + CO2 + H2O.
3
Q
Law of Conservation of Mass
A
- During a chemical reaction, atoms cannot be created or destroyed.
- The mass of the reactants must equal the mass of the products.
4
Q
Balancing Equations
A
- The unbalanced chemical equation is given to you.
- Make a list of all of the elements on each side under the equation for both the reactants and products as shown above.
- Next to each element of the list put the number of atoms that are in each of the elements.
- Multiply the number of atoms in each element until both sides are equal.
- Put the number, of how much you multiplied the element by and place in front of that element or compound in the equation
