#MATH Flashcards
INTEGER
A whole number that can be positive, negative, or zero.
EQUATION
A mathematical statement that asserts the equality of two expressions, typically separated by an equals sign.
RATIO
A comparison of two quantities by division.
GEOMETRY
The branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relationships of points, lines, angles, surfaces, and solids.
FUNCTION
A relation between a set of inputs and a set of possible outputs, where each input is related to exactly one output.
PERCENT
A fraction whose denominator is 100, representing a portion of a whole out of 100 parts.
PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM
In a right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides.
QUADRATIC EQUATION
A polynomial equation of the second degree, typically written in the form
ax^2 + bx + c = 0.
COORDINATE PLANE
A two-dimensional plane formed by two perpendicular lines called the x-axis and y-axis, where points are identified by their coordinates (x, y).
EXPONENT
A number that indicates how many times a base number is multiplied by itself.
