What is a THESIS STATEMENT?
A concise statement that summarizes the main point or argument of an essay, typically found in the introduction.
Define MAIN IDEA
The central or most important thought of a paragraph or larger section of text, often expressed in a topic sentence.
What is a LITERARY DEVICE and list types
A technique used by writers to produce a specific effect in their writing, such as metaphor, simile, irony, or foreshadowing.
Simile: A comparison between two unlike things using “like” or “as.” Example: “Her smile was as bright as the sun.”
Metaphor: A comparison between two unlike things without using “like” or “as.” Example: “The world is a stage.”
Symbolism: The use of symbols to represent ideas or concepts. Example: The color green symbolizing jealousy or envy.
Alliteration: The repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words. Example: “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.”
Personification: Giving human qualities to non-human entities. Example: “The trees danced in the wind.”
Hyperbole: Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. Example: “I’ve told you a million times.”
Irony: A contrast between expectations and reality. Example: **A fire station burning down.
Foreshadowing: Hinting at events to come later in the story. Example: “Little did he know what awaited him.”
INFERENCE
A conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning, rather than explicit statements.
SYNTAX
The arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language.
THEMATIC ANALYSIS
Examination of the themes or underlying messages present in a literary work, film, or other media.
ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
A type of essay that presents arguments and evidence to support a claim or position on a controversial issue.
GENRE
A category of artistic composition, such as literature, music, or film, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.
AUDIENCE
The intended recipients of a communication or message, including their characteristics, interests, and perspectives.
REVISION
The process of reviewing, refining, and improving a written piece by making changes to its content, organization, or style.
