Maternal death?
death of a woman while pregnant w/in 42 days of the end of a pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or management but not from accidental causes
Maternal mortality ratio?
# of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births -abbreviated to MMR

like maternal death but up to 1 year after end of pregnancy

What is severe maternal morbidity?
when a woman nearly dies but survives a complication that occurred during pregnancy childbirth, or w/in 42 days of termination of pregnancy
-affects 60,000 women per year
What is maternal mortality review committee?
A committee to understand what factors leads to maternal mortality and what intervention can be taken to prevent it
What is the leading cause of maternal death?
Cardiovascular conditions
- accounted for 1/3 of all pregnancy related deaths between 2011-2016
- many factors including maternal age, existing chronic medical conditions, pre-pregnancy obesity
