What is health?
A state of complete wellness in a person. Can be in regards to physical,mental,social wellbeing.
What is public health?
Looks at a whole community or nation as a whole in wellness. Fulfills society’s wishes in which all people can be healthy
What’s the purpose of public health?
- Prevent injuries
- prevent spread of diseases and epidemics
- Promote and encourage healthy behaviors
- Protect against environmental hazards
- Respond and recover from disasters
What are public health actors
Places where public health is seen or can be done or is talked about

What’s a health system?
A continuum between public health and medical care w/ integration of medical professionals and places for people to have better health
Aspects of health systems?
- Access and cost: insurance coverage, affordability/out of pocket costs, supply of clinicians, continuity/ coordination of care
- Quality: high quality care, medical errors, adequate info systems, respectful care, health equity
What are the 3 levels of prevention in healthcare?
- Primary
- Secondary
- Tertiary
Primary prevention?
Promotes pop. health and well being. Prevents disease before it even starts
Ex: exercising, smoking preventions, vaccinations,
Secondary prevention?
Prevents the progression of the disease through early detection and intervention
Tertiary prevention?
Mitigate disease effects, avoid disease re occurrences, and avert complications
