Define Separation
The child isnt in the presence of the PCG for a brief amount of time
Define deprivation
when a child loses an element of the primary attachment figure’s emotional care. This then becomes an issue in development
What do developmental psychologists say about maternal deprivation.
deprived children have no PCG to base their future relationships on and will therefore struggle to form bonds in the future.

-Mental retardation

Explain what the Emotional impact of maternal deprivation is
Affectionless psychopathy- inability to experience guilt, lack empathy, lack remorse and higher criminality
Outline Bowlby’s (1944) study on the 44 thieves
44 young men who were accused of stealing were interviewed for signs of affectionless psychopathy and their families were interviewed to see if they faced any prolonged separations from their mothers
These were the findings of the 44 thieves study

Goldforb (1955) offered supporting evidence for the 44 theives, outline this
Followed 30 orphaned children to age 12, half were fostered at 4 months and the other half remained in the orphanage
What were Goldforb’s (1955) findings
The fostered group had an IQ of 96 where as the orphanage has an IQ of 68
