bond stone
largest dimension perpendicular to wall face to tie wall to backing
mortar
portland cement, sand, lime & water; clean & free of organic material, grading based on thickness of joint; lime putty or hydrated lime improves workability and water retentivity, reduces strength; admixtures not recommended for high bond applications (except powder coloring agents)
Type M or S, N & O mortars
M or S (weather exposed or load-bearing); N & O (mortars lesser compressive strength required)
