What are the main categories of triage?
- Immediate
- Delayed
- Minimal
- Expectant
What is meant by the triage category immediate?
Require attention within minutes to 2 hours to avoid death or major disability
What is meant by the triage category classed as delayed?
Wounded, but whose general condition is stable to allow delay in treatment without endangering life, limb or eyesight
What is meant by the triage category minimal?
Minor injuries who can effectively care for themselves with minimal medical care
What is meant by the triage category expectant?
These have injuries such as cardiac arrest, resp. arrest or continued seizures that can overwhelm the medical services. The category may be invoked for usage if resources are overwhelmed and resources should not be expended on this category if there are a larger number of ther casualties requiring care
What is the start seive?
Divides casualties into 4 categories - dead, priority 1, 2 and 3
If someone was waling and injured, what category would they be?
Priority 3 - delayed
If someone was walking and not injured, what category would they fall into?
Minimal - head to survivor reception centre
If someone was not breathing after opening their airway, what category would they be classed as?
Dead
If you came across someone who was not breathing in a mass casualty situation, what would you do?
Open airway and reassess if breathing
If someone, after opening their airway, began breathing after having previously not been breathing, what category would they be classed as?
Priority 1 - immediate
If someone was breathing and had a resp. rate of 9 or less, what category would you class them as?
Priority 1 - immediate
