Mass and Weight Flashcards
mass
the amount of matter in an object
measured in kg
does not change with location
weight
is a force due to gravity
measured in N
changes with location
Weight =
Mass x Gravity
Force =
Mass x Acceleration
what does acceleration do
it tells us how quickly the speed changes (the amount that speed changes per secon)
if a box is 2kg, there is a 8N force pulling it east and a 6N force pulling it west
the resultant force would be 2N east, and the acceleration, would be 2/2 = 1m/s
if there are equal forces pulling an object on opposite sides
the object will be at rest or moving in a constant speed
free fall
it is a regular fall, but without air resistance, this means that a feather and a ball would fall at the same time
