He said that family is an ideological state apparatus and that family teaches that there will also be a hierarchy e.g. By the children accepting that the dad is in charge they will always accept that a boss will be in charge of them when they are older

He feels that family is there to exacted the feeling of oppression and exploitation at work.
This then helps the workers with their feelings
He feels that workers do not challenge the system because they need to be able to provide food and shelter for their children and wife’s

Engles argues that women are like prostitutes as they give the husbands sex and offspring for economic security in return
He also said that monogamous was necessary as the husbands then new that they would be able to pass on their property to their children
What the the evaluation points of the Marxist views
- the Marxist views of old and women are now going out to work no they don’t have to reply on the men
- children are more likely to assert themselves rather then having the family to help them
- Marxist seeing the family as a bad thing, however the family still shows the mother playing the expressive role and the father plYing the instrumental role.
This is starting to fade away now as there is a riding divorce rate
