Why must that data be treated with caution
In 1974 some people may of been separated however not had a divorce and people may of lived in empty shell ( only lived together because of children)

They have made it easier and cheaper

It is more socially accepted now

Either 5-7 years or 10-14 years( the children move away and grow up)

Why do women initiate the divorce
Women are now expecting more off men and they are now putting their careers before marriage.
They no longer feel that they need economic security from the men and are now becoming more independent
What does Parsons feel 1950’s
He feels that people are now married for the fillfillmelnt and the enjoyment.
Parsons also feels that people who are still married have stronger relationships
He says that there is a high rate of remarriage meaning that it shows that people don’t see a problem with getting married

That we now live in a secular age ( marriage is no longer seen as a spiritual union)
What does beck Gernstein argue
Rising divorce rate is a product of ‘individualisation’ - people are no longer controlled by social expectations and divorce is one of many life choices
How does contraception effect divorce
More people are likely to have affairs because of the use of contraception
How does the extended family link to divorce
People no longer live in extended families meaning that the family aren’t there to reply on, this then puts more pressure on the Marriage and also has more expectations
How does the ageing population effect divorce
More people are living longer therefore more time for marriages to go wrong
