Slight more detailed version for nerds. (gotta make ts entertaining somehow)
Marxism was made by Karl Marx (A German philosopher) and is a simple conflict theory. He believes we live in a capitalist society which is split into two classes the Ruling class called the bourgeoise (idk im not french) and the working class called the poletrait
What did Marx believe needed to happen in order to free themselves from the current false consciousness and what did he believe that the false consciousness they were under was about..
(Hints: The _________ _____ exploits the ___________ ______)
(Hint 2: Believed there needed to be a _____)
Marx was under the belief that the ruling class takes advantage of the working class due to their role in society and thinks there is a false consciousness in society and to break this thinks there needs to be a revolution where the working class overthrows those in the upper class
What is a false consciousness
Hint: Think “genjutsu/illusion”
A false consciousness is when the entirety of society or a large majority is not aware of what is going on around them
Mark believed they weren’t aware of there exploitation done by the ruling class
(side note you should use the term ruling class a=oppposed to upper calss)
Even more nerd stuff
It is believed by Marx that the ruling class exploits and takes advantage of the working class he in addition believes there is a false consciousness withtin society he claims to break this false consciousness, A revolution is required for a communist society where the working class isnt exploited.
SUPRISE QUESTION: Define Role allocation and who made this theory! (Deck:Functionalism!)
ROLE ALLOCATION:
(DAVIS AND MOORE (1945)
-Education can be seen as a proving ground of ability, Students are both sifted and sorted through to be allocated into where there believed roles in society are (an example of this is the system of sets 1, 2, 3, 4 etc..) Supposed to help match the job they’re best suited for in the workplace.
They argue inequality is necessary so the best jobs go to the most talented
According to who..”The state consists of two elements which keep the bourgeois in power!”
Althusser (1971) Who dubbed this “The Ideological State Apparatus
What two Apparatuses did Althusser (1971) add!
The repressive state apparatuses (RSA;s)
The Ideological state
apparatuses (ISA’s)
What two functions did Althusser of 1971 think education performed? (detailed)
Roles of Education (According to Althusser!)
-That Education reproduces class inequality by transmitting it generation to generation and failing each successive generation of working class pupils. (idek mayne)
-Education essentially justifies class inequalities by forming ideologies (sets of beliefs and Ideas) that disguise its true cause in which this ideology presuades workers to accept that inequality in society is only inevitable
Simplified vers.
-argued that education plays a key role in maintaining class inequality. He believed that schools pass on the values and expectations of the dominant class to each new generation. This means that working-class students often don’t get the same opportunities as their wealthier peers, which leads to a cycle where their disadvantages are repeated over time. Essentially, instead of leveling the playing field, education often reinforces existing class differences.
What did Marx think the proletariat class/working class would eventually do..
Karl Marx believed that eventually overtake the ruling class through a revolution (clearly that didnt fkn heppen)

Bowles and Glinits were two key sociologist theorist who believed capatalist society needed people who are ready to accept
-Low Pay
-Long hours with hard work
-Ready to take orders from higher ups!
They claim this is the role of education in society, It is only to make you into obedient workforce willing to accept this.
What else did Bowles and Glinitis argue??
(this ones a bit hard so:)
