Markører og koblingskart i planter Flashcards
What is the genetic explanation why most individuals in a self-pollinating plant species are
homozygous?
Because there is no genetic recombination when self pollinating, it is unable to introduce any variation in the population. The proportion of heterozygoty is reduced by 50% in each generation.
What does it mean that a marker is codominant? Why are codominant markers more
informative for genetic studies?
Codominans is when two alleles of the same gene are expressed in the phenotype. These types of markers can distinguish between heterozygote and homozygote individuals which and makes them very informative.
What is the expected recombination frequency between two markers located on different
chromosomes?
The recombination frequency is 50% as they are inherited independently.
Genotyping results from a mapping population gives the following recombination frequencies
between markers A, B, C and D.
A-B: 12% recombination, A-C: 33% recombination, A-D: 7% recombination, B-C: 22%
recombination, B-D: 5% recombination
